CS Opiyo Wandayi Appears Before Senate Committee, Outlines LPG Growth Strategy and Clean Cooking Plan by 2028

Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Opiyo Wandayi, accompanied by senior officials from the State Department for Petroleum, EPRA, and the National Oil Corporation, appeared before the Senate Standing Committee on Energy, chaired by Senator Dr. Oburu Odinga, to respond to questions on the LPG Growth Strategy and related implementation matters.

In his submission, the CS outlined the legal foundation for the sector, noting that Kenya has approved new LPG regulations under Legal Notice 189 of 2025 to support the LPG Growth Strategy. Key measures within the framework include the implementation of track-and-trace technology for cylinders and a targeted effort to promote local manufacturing, all aimed at improving safety, preventing illegal refilling, and increasing accountability throughout the value chain. He also reaffirmed the government's plan to achieve clean cooking for all by 2028, which is within the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals on ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all by 2030.
