Engagement with industry stakeholders

Constructive engagement with industry stakeholders remains essential in strengthening Kenya's petroleum sector and advancing regional energy security.

Today, I convened a high-level consultative meeting with Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), including members of the Oil Trading Exchange of Kenya (OTEK) and the Oil Marketers Association of Kenya (OMAK), to strengthen the implementation of the Government-to-Government (G-to-G) petroleum import framework for the Republic of South Sudan and discuss other strategic priorities within the petroleum sector.

Our engagement yielded consensus on key interventions that will facilitate the effective implementation of the South Sudan G-to-G framework. These measures will enhance the security of petroleum supply to the Republic of South Sudan while safeguarding the commercial interests of Kenyan OMCs, further reinforcing Kenya's position as a reliable regional energy and trade partner.

I reaffirmed the Government's commitment to working closely with industry players to foster a stable, predictable and commercially viable petroleum sector. I emphasized the importance of enhanced planning, coordination and collaboration in protecting the interests of all stakeholders and ensuring a secure, efficient and sustainable supply of petroleum products.

The meeting was attended by the Commissioner for Petroleum, Mr. Joseph C. Otieno, and the Acting Director General of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), Dr. Eng. Joseph Oketch.
