South Lokichar field development plan defended in Parliament ahead of ratification

Ministry of Energy, and Petroleum, Hon. James Opiyo Wandayi accompanied by Petroleum Department Principal Secretary, Mr. Mohamed Liban appeared before the National Assembly Kenya and Senate Standing Committees on Energy to appraise members on the South Lokichar Field Development Plan ahead of it's ratification.

The CS stated that the South Lokichar Field Development Plan marks a pivotal, impactful and strategic milestone in Kenya’s economic transformation. He affirmed that the country’s journey towards attaining world-class economic status is firmly on course, noting that the project will play a key role in driving this transformation under the leadership of H.E. President William Samoei Ruto. 

He emphasized that ratification of the Development Plan and the associated Production Sharing Contracts is not merely an approval of an oil project, but a strong affirmation of Kenya’s commitment to harnessing its natural resources for national development, urging the Joint Committee to consider ratification to enable the contractor to proceed to site and commence the project.
Petroleum PS noted that key project enablers, including the Ministries of Water and Roads, have already been identified to support critical infrastructure development, and confirmed that a multi-agency committee is in place to coordinate implementation, ensuring a seamless, efficient and well-structured rollout of the Field Development Plan.
